no smoking
Health Minister A. Ramadoss is at it again! After condemning Shahrukh Khan’s and Amitabh Bachan’s smoking habits on screen and off it, he has definitely carved a niche in the hearts of those who believe that celebrities have a certain responsibility towards the society and that they should set a positive example for their fans and admirers.
Next on Ramadoss’s hit list is Bengal Chief Minister and chain smoker- Buddha Bhattacharya. The Bengali politician bore the brunt of the Health Ministers wrath when he claimed that he could not go without a cigarette and he simply had to smoke in order to function optimally. Even the new hefty fine does not deter him from lighting a fag in his office premises. After all, what are a few bucks to a mighty politician whose wife and daughter could not bring him around!
Not only actors- any public figure owes an obligatory responsibility of conveying a positive message to people. Millions of youth and children look up to these famous people for inspiration and many are driven to tobacco use and smoking only because they associate a cigarette with style and success. Agreed that a person has the right to personal decisions and “creative freedom”, as SRK puts it, these people will only do a favor to themselves by choosing not to smoke in public places.

As a reformed smoker, I feel that short of soaking smoker’s in petrol there is little one can do if they refuse to quit.
